Biography
Rui Okubo is a young Japanese kickboxer out of Utsunomiya and one of K-1's most promising technicians. As an amateur he was exceptional, compiling a 145-18-3 record with more than 40 titles, including the 2021 Japan Cup and K-1 Koshien tournament.
He turned professional in February 2022, and in September 2022 won a four-man tournament at Krush 141 to become the inaugural Krush Flyweight (-51kg) Champion. An orthodox striker, his game is built on the clean fundamentals and ring intelligence he developed through his deep amateur background.
In 2024 he advanced to the final of the K-1 Super Bantamweight (-55kg) World Tournament, finishing as runner-up after a loss to Akihiro Kaneko by knockout. Still early in his career at a 14-2 record, Okubo is regarded as a rising contender across the lighter K-1 divisions.
