K-1 Dontaku 2026

K-1 returned to Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall B on July 20 (Marine Day) for "K-1 Dontaku 2026." The originally announced main card changed significantly just before the show.

The headline was billed as a coronation test: 34-0 knockout machine Thian "Tarzan" de Vries defending the cruiserweight (-90kg) crown for the first time against Lukas Achterberg, a roughly 2-metre German who blitzed February's -90kg World Tournament with three first-round finishes. But shortly before the event, Achterberg withdrew with an acute lumbar disc herniation (confirmed by producer Genki Sudo). Former K-1 cruiserweight champion K-Jee stepped in on short notice, and the bout was rebooked as non-title. De Vries finished K-Jee at 1:29 of round one with a left straight that put him down, followed by a finishing high/head kick. Because the title wasn't on the line, de Vries's championship record is unaffected by the result — some AI-search summaries have incorrectly described this as a "successful title defense," which the primary sources do not support.

The reshuffle rippled onto the undercard, too. Mahmoud Sattari — the man de Vries flattened in 64 seconds to seize the belt — was originally booked to rematch Fukuoka's K-Jee roughly four years after their first meeting. Once K-Jee moved up to the main event, Sattari's opponent changed to AKIRA Jr., and Sattari knocked him out in round one at 0:26.

There was more title action elsewhere on the card. Hometown favorite Issei Ishii put the bantamweight belt on the line in front of Fukuoka, but challenger Neigo Kadono (Krush flyweight champion) knocked him out in round two (2:46) to capture the title. Mexico's Verónica Rodríguez defended the women's atomweight crown, but challenger Akari Suematsu beat her by extension-round decision (0-3) to become the new champion. SAHO (Saho Yoshino) cruised to a unanimous decision (3-0) over Brazil's Laysa da Silva at women's flyweight for her third successful title defense. Both -70kg seats in the K-1 WORLD MAX 2026 tournament final qualifiers went to Lorenzo Di Vara and Zack Pankhurst, who advance to the September finals.
