Report
At UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi, two of the strawweight division's most accomplished grapplers met for the vacant women's title. Mackenzie Dern, a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu world medalist, faced fellow grappling specialist Virna Jandiroba in a technical, grinding affair.
Dern's improved striking and ability to threaten submissions in every scramble proved the difference over five rounds, and she took a clear unanimous decision to finally claim a UFC championship after years on the title doorstep. The win moved her to 16-5.
As the new champion, Dern's first defense was lined up against grappler Gillian Robertson at UFC 330 in August 2026.
