What to watch
UFC Fight Night: Nurmagomedov vs. Song lands in Shanghai, China on Saturday, August 29, at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. In Japan, early prelims start at 4:00pm JST and the main card at 7:00pm JST (China Standard Time runs an hour behind Japan, so local start times are 3:00pm and 6:00pm CST).
The main event is a top-5 bantamweight clash: No. 3-ranked Umar Nurmagomedov against No. 5 Song Yadong, who arrives off a submission win over former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo in Macau in May.
Two Japanese fighters are on the card. At flyweight, Rei Tsuruya (11-1, Chiba, THE BLACKBELT JAPAN) meets Kevin Borjas, the division's No. 10-ranked contender from Peru. Tsuruya's only pro loss came via a unanimous decision to current flyweight champion Joshua Van at UFC 313 in March 2025; he returned to the win column in May at UFC Fight Night Macau, submitting late replacement Luis Gurule in the first round. Borjas, for his part, is best known for flooring Van with a right hand during their own 2023 fight (which Van still won on the scorecards) and sits at No. 10 in the flyweight rankings.
At bantamweight, Kai Asakura (JAPAN TOP TEAM) fights his second bout since moving up from featherweight, taking on China's Aoriqileng.
Elsewhere on the card: Yan Xiaonan (No. 4) vs. Denise Gomes (No. 13) at women's strawweight, Alex Perez (No. 11) vs. Su Mudaerji at flyweight, and Ce Liu vs. Junior Tafa at light heavyweight.
U-NEXT holds the exclusive Japan streaming rights to UFC, a partnership recently extended through 2031.
The card is subject to change or additions before fight week — check UFC's official site for the latest lineup.
