Shields vs Scott

Claressa Shields stopped Kaye Scott in the sixth round in Atlanta on Aug 15, 2026 (local time) to win back the WBC and WBA women's middleweight titles.

The fight headlined a DAZN-broadcast card at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia; in Japan it was already Sunday, Aug 16. The WBC (Aug 17) and the WBA (Aug 19) each announced the title change from champion Scott to Shields on their official sites. The stoppage time — 1:38 of round six — is not given in either sanctioning body's article; it comes from several reports, including The Ring, BoxingScene and Sky Sports.

Results: all four DAZN main-card bouts

The three undercard results match in the fight reports from BoxingScene and USA TODAY Sports (published on Yahoo Sports). According to BoxingScene, Isley vs Hicks was the co-main event. Isley was docked a point in round five for a kidney punch but still won the decision to move to 17-0; Hicks dropped to 12-2. Lozada improved to 5-0 and Cuesta fell to 19-6-1 (BoxingScene describes that bout as a WBA women's Gold title fight). Veyre, making the first defense of her WBC belt, lost two points for holding and was disqualified in round eight, handing the title to Ferreira.

How it happened: a sixth-round knockdown, then towels from Scott's corner

The WBC and WBA official articles, The Ring and The Guardian all describe Shields taking control from the early rounds. She landed first with speed and accuracy and wore Scott down with body punches. USA TODAY Sports called round five Scott's best of the fight, and BoxingScene says she pinned Shields against the ropes for a full minute in that round.

The finish came in round six. A left hook and a follow-up right from Shields sent Scott stumbling into the ropes for a knockdown (The Ring, BoxingScene, The Guardian). Referee Joel Scobie let the fight continue, but when Shields kept landing after the restart, Scott's corner threw in several towels and the bout ended at 1:38 (The Ring, BoxingScene). The WBA's official article instead says the referee stepped in to halt the action, so the sources describe the ending differently. Both the WBC and the WBA record the result as a TKO. After the fight Shields said she "started going to the body to break her down" and that Scott was "stronger than what I thought" (The Ring, The Guardian).

• Shields' record: 19-0 with 4 KOs; she remains unbeaten as a professional (The Ring, BoxingScene, The Guardian). She is 31.
• Scott's record: 5-2-1 after the loss (same sources). The 42-year-old from Sydney had won her titles by outpointing Olivia Curry in December 2025 (WBC pre-fight article, The Ring).
• First middleweight fight in about three years: Shields had not fought at middleweight since beating Maricela Cornejo in June 2023 (WBC, The Guardian). BoxingScene describes the move as a drop of three weight classes from heavyweight.
• The weight cut: Shields said after the fight that she started at 198 lb (about 89.8 kg) 14 weeks earlier and got down to 160 lb (about 72.6 kg) — a 38 lb (about 17.2 kg) cut (The Ring, Sky Sports, The Guardian).
• A rare stoppage: The Ring and The Guardian both note it was only her second stoppage win in nine years.
• Timing: DAZN had listed the main card for 8pm ET on Aug 15 (9am JST on Aug 16). USA TODAY Sports reported that the card ran late because the preliminary bouts overran. The main event ended shortly after midnight ET on Aug 16, around 1pm JST: USA TODAY Sports' live blog posted the result at 12:09am ET.
• The venue: The Guardian reports a crowd of around 16,000 and says it was the first women's main event in State Farm Arena history.

Where the titles stand now (WBA rankings, Aug 31)

The WBA's women's rankings dated Aug 31, 2026 list Shields as WBA and WBC middleweight (160 lb) champion and Tammara Thibeault as IBF and WBO champion. In other words, Shields won two of the four major belts at middleweight; she is not the undisputed middleweight champion. According to The Guardian, Canada's Thibeault had won the IBF and WBO titles (plus The Ring's belt) in her fifth professional fight the weekend before Shields vs Scott.

What's next for Shields? (as of Sept 24, 2026)

As of Sept 24, 2026, KIAI found no official announcement of Shields' next opponent or date. Here is how the picture has moved, in date order.

• Aug 7 (before the fight): Shields told the BBC she expected to fight Lauren Price of Wales "in 2027 in the first quarter", and that she would like one more fight at 160 lb at the end of the year first (Reuters, reporting her BBC comments).
• Aug 15 (right after the fight): Shields named Price, the unified welterweight champion and, like Shields, an Olympic gold medalist, as her first choice and said she hoped to fight in December or January (The Guardian, Sky Sports). She also mentioned Mikaela Mayer and Thibeault (The Guardian, DAZN). Her promoter, Dmitriy Salita, told Sky Sports that a Price fight "belongs in the United States". The Ring reported that Price had agreed to fight at 160 lb but that no contracts had been signed.
• Aug 29: Britain's Chantelle Cameron beat Mayer on points in Birmingham, England, to hold the WBA, WBC and WBO super welterweight (154 lb) titles (The Ring, Sky Sports).
• Sept 1–3: Cameron said her promoter, MVP, had opened talks with Shields' team and that things were "moving quite quickly" (The Ring, Sept 1; Sky Sports, Sept 2). On Sept 3 the WBC reported on its official site that discussions were under way for the fight. According to the WBC, Cameron (23-1) is willing to move up to 160 lb for it, and no official agreement has been reached. The WBC said it could become one of the biggest women's boxing events of 2027.
• Sept 10: Salita told The Detroit News he was in talks to stage Shields' next fight at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, Feb 6, 2027. The opponent has not been settled: he named Cameron, Price and Cris Cyborg among those under consideration and said he hoped to finalize the fight by early November (The Detroit News, published on Yahoo Sports).

So the "Price in December or January" idea from fight night has, in later reports, become a 2027 fight against an opponent still to be chosen from Cameron, Price and others. All of this is from reports and negotiations; KIAI will update this page when a date and opponent are officially announced.
