Biography
Ian Machado Garry is one of the most talked-about welterweights in the UFC — a tall, confident Irish striker who built a fast climb on length, footwork and high-volume output. Fighting out of Chute Boxe Diego Lima, he uses a long jab and varied kicking attack to control distance and pile up rounds.
He rose through the contender ranks with wins over Carlos Prates and, most notably, a unanimous-decision victory over former champion Belal Muhammad in November 2025 that moved him to the top of the division. His lone defeat came to undefeated finisher Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310.
As of June 2026 he is 17-1 and challenges Islam Makhachev for the welterweight title at UFC 330 in August — his first crack at UFC gold.
