Career: the youngest Kameda brother, schooled in Mexico
According to PBC's official biography, Kameda followed his older brothers Koki and Daiki into boxing but left Japan at 15 to live and train in Mexico. He turned pro there in November 2008, at 17, and his aggressive style earned him the nickname “El Mexicanito” in his adopted country.
On August 1, 2013, in Cebu, Philippines, he won the WBO bantamweight world title with a unanimous decision over champion Paulus Ambunda. When his brother Daiki won the IBF super flyweight title on September 3, 2013 — with eldest brother Koki then holding the WBA bantamweight title — the three brothers held world titles at the same time. Guinness World Records lists them under “most siblings to hold world boxing titles simultaneously” (three).
In July 2014 Kameda made the second defense of his WBO belt with a seventh-round knockout of Pungluang Sor Singyu at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. After a third defense that November, he vacated the WBO title in April 2015 to pursue a fight with WBA champion Jamie McDonnell. He lost to McDonnell twice on points in 2015 — in May, when all three judges scored it 114-113, and again in September.
Moving up to super bantamweight, Kameda won the WBC interim title on November 12, 2018, at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, beating Abigail Medina by unanimous decision (117-111, 117-111, 116-112). On July 13, 2019, in Carson, California, he lost a unanimous decision (117-110 on all three cards) to full WBC champion Rey Vargas.
After a layoff of about 22 months, he returned in May 2021 and won four straight. At featherweight he lost a split decision to Lerato Dlamini in October 2023, then avenged it with a split-decision win in their August 2024 rematch, an IBF title eliminator. On May 24, 2025, in Osaka, he challenged IBF featherweight champion Angelo Leo and lost a majority decision (one card 114-114, the other two 115-113 and 116-112 for Leo).
